LOAD UP WITH COLOR - WILD WATERCOLORS
|
|
Workshop Theme
In order to jumpstart the new year, this workshop theme will investigate the power of color with water-soluble materials in order to maximize the potential with watercolor and pursuing color issues and methods. The group problems will make the painters think about process, compositional ideas and potential with color. The intrigue of watercolor and spontaneous power of color are important aspects of the medium and the workshop will explore the WILD, expressive aspects of water and COLOR!
SUPPLIES
The supplies can vary greatly and one may even return from home the second day
with more fire power!
- PAINT In addition to traditional transparent watercolors, acrylics, gouache (white), inks and are certainly within the bounds of watercolor. Rob will be demonstrating with a variety of these materials to push the luminosity of color in transparent, semi-transparent and opaque directions. There are many various products on the market. Rob will especially be concentrating on bold color bases; cadmium and/or Winsor color systems with the primary colors. Please bring some white gouache or tempera as well as enough paint to load up with!
- PAPER Paper of one's choice, either smooth (hot-press), textured (cold-press) or rough papers will work fine. The first day will be spent doing some experiments so a variety of papers is fine and these may be smaller or as large as a half-sheet. Towards the later half of the first day the group will be loading a full sheet up with color, be prepared. The suggestion for the workshop will be a variety of smaller pieces and two full-sheets. These may be stretched or un-stretched and Rob will use both methods comparing the results.
- OTHER STUDIO SUPPLIES Brushes (one pointed and one flat-1 synthetic and one natural if possible), water container, palette, paper towels, old newspapers, spray bottle, small cups or mixing dishes - an old bowl and plate to use as alternative mixing areas for materials not usually added to the watercolor palette.
