Join other enthusiasts for an unusual journey to CLASSICAL ASIA, a watercolorist’s painting paradise. This workshop is filled with so much history, imagery and cultural experiences, a melting pot of the best of Asia for watercolorists! The workshop will begin in Shanghai, China, where the US group will be met by our Chinese and Japanese hosts. We will sightsee and sketch some of the “old” Shanghai that is quickly disappearing. Rob has traveled to China many times and this trip blends the best for painters. Our group will be met by a group coming from Niigata, Japan with their Chinese-Japanese watercolor teacher and leader. The Niigata group, from the west coast of Japan has traveled to the US and Europe to join Rob’s painters the past two years. Both groups will then head off by train to the dynamic Yellow Mountains.

These images have been the foundation of Chinese painting landscape imagery for centuries, 32 magnificent peaks rising thousands of feet high, blooming like golden lotus flowers amidst red crags and rock columns. We will be spending several days working here before heading by train to the waterway villages and canals of Suzchow and the countryside. Rob has done many paintings from here.

The group will then fly to Niigata, Japan to host an exhibition at the Civic Art Gallery of pre-arranged works and tour the city and landscape painting. This visit to a typical city and countryside will include the mystical island of Sado off the coast of Niigata, west of Tokyo. The images of old Japan will be memorable.
