MIXED MEDIA WATERCOLORS
|
|
Workshop Theme
This workshop theme in the Artisans series during the past several years has focused on the creation of spatial tension and disjunction of occasional surreal forms representing personal metaphorical experiences of modern life. The mixed media theme will investigate design, ideas, images along with perfecting the marriage of mixed media collage materials, multiple surfaces and technique within the three-day workshop.
SUPPLIES
The supplies can vary greatly and one may even return from home the second day
with more fire power!
- PAINT The type of paints is totally open, but a mix of transparent and opaque watercolors, including gouache, especially a white and black along with the potential for acrylics, inks, powered pigments and metallic paint would be within the bounds of exploration.
- PAPER A few sheets of smaller watercolor papers, scraps or block or tablet form are fine as the first day will be totally experimental. One full sheet of paper along with a variety of matboard scraps will be necessary to investigate flat and solid grounds and surfaces. These surfaces may involve tonal grounds, dark and light in order to create more interesting value structure along with papers and surfaces that may be opaque, semi-transparent or transparent. Rob will be demonstrating with a variety of papers and board surfaces.
- SKETCHING SUPPLIES Minimal: pencil or pen of your choice.
- OTHER IMPORTANT SUPPLIES Matt knife and/or scissors, glues. Also, some images from magazine, photos, scanned and/or newspapers will be critical in developing a foundation in the works. Give some thought to these choices prior to the workshop as Rob will certainly add to the mix some group issues.
- OTHER STUDIO SUPPLIES Brushes, water container, palette, paper towels, and anything else you are accustomed to using. You may find masking tape and other products you use in mixed media works worth bringing.
- SLIDES/WORK Bring one or two slides OR actual pieces of current work for informal feedback during the Tuesday/Wednesday sack lunch break.
